Wedding flowers … so many girls dream about their wedding day, but few people actually decide what wedding flowers they'll be buying until it actually comes time to order them! Today we look at the practicalities and style issues associated with three of the most popular species of wedding flower ever: roses, gladioli and lilies.
Roses as wedding flowers
Many people see roses as an exceedingly traditional choice for wedding flowers … probably because they only ever encounter roses in traditional settings and traditional colors. Most people only buy red or white roses (or pink, at a stretch), and only buy them in concert with other roses. The yellow standing wreath above can be a beautiful addition to your wedding venue or reception hall, and doesn’t look too traditional at all. Roses are available for most of the year, and there is a wider variety of flower bouquets that incorporate roses than any other flower. They're still a great choice!
Gladioli as wedding flowers
Gladioli are tall, proud, graceful … everything that you want the bride to be! They can be a bit difficult to carry as a hand bouquet, but look amazing as a stand or table flower. They are also very cheap compared to roses and lilies. They don't wilt quickly -- hardy, just like your marriage will be!
Lilies as wedding flowers
Lilies are almost always the star of a bouquet -- their big petals, protruding stamen and bright colors mean that they are inevitably a centerpiece. Lilies are wonderful in all sorts of wedding situations, from the handheld bouquet, to tables to entrance pieces. We love the freshness of the example lily bouquet above, but there are plenty of much more strongly colored and exotic looking lilies available.
